Saxony: Fewer employees in Saxony's tourism industry

Kamenz (dpa/sn) - Saxony's tourism has recently offered fewer people a job. On average, 90,000 people were employed in the tourism industry in 2021, 4.1 percent fewer than in 2020, as the State Statistical Office in Kamenz announced on Monday before World Tourism Day (September 27). A minus of 3.4 percent was already recorded in 2020. According to the statisticians, the decline is mainly due to the corona-related operating restrictions for large parts of the hotel and catering industry at the beginning and towards the end of 2021.

According to official accommodation statistics, the number of overnight stays in Saxony in 2021 was 12.3 million, 9 percent below the previous year's level and around 41 percent below the record value of 2019, it was also said.
