Saxony: Fichtelberghaus opens again on the highest peak in the east

The traditional Fichtelberghaus at an altitude of 1215 meters was closed for a good month. Shortly before the start of the ski season, the Oberwiesenthal lift company, as the new tenant, made the house fit. Visitors can look forward to some innovations.

Oberwiesenthal (dpa/sn) - The Fichtelberghaus on the summit of Saxony's highest mountain will start operating this weekend after a short-term change of tenants. In the interior, a lot of work has been completed since the takeover on November 1st, said project manager Erik Schulze from the Oberwiesenthal lift company (LGO). "Professional smoke detectors have been upgraded in all 30 guest rooms." In addition, WiFi was set up and the house was repainted and redesigned.

The Erzgebirge district owns the Fichtelberghaus. The former tenant family announced in autumn that they would close the hotel from October 17th. As the reason for her withdrawal after 20 years, she pointed to deficiencies in fire protection, which the owner urgently needs to rectify.

Already during the closing time this spring, essential measures to eliminate defects were carried out, the district office said on request. Among other things, fire protection flaps in the basement, in the restaurant toilet and in the kitchen were renewed and installed in the sauna and wellness area. The total costs for the construction measures amount to around 250,000 euros.

In addition to 30 guest rooms, the Fichtelberghaus also has around 140 seats in the restaurant. It is right on the summit at 1215 meters, the chairlift ends there and three ski slopes lead down to the valley. "The Erzgebirge parlors expect the guests as they know them," emphasized Schulze. Regional products, including fresh trout and a special snack board, are offered as culinary highlights.
