Rothenburg (dpa/sn) - A fire in a warehouse of an ammunition disposal company in Rothenburg (Görlitz district) triggered a large-scale operation by the fire brigade. There was a system for portioning ammunition, several containers in the hall and a conveyor belt on fire, as district fire chief Björn Mierisch said on Monday. During the operation on Sunday, there were repeated explosions, so that the extinguishing work was difficult. The media had previously reported.
According to Mierisch, around 170 firefighters were on site and brought the fire in the ammunition incineration company under control late on Sunday evening. A cloud of dark smoke formed. Residents have been warned to keep windows closed.
According to the fire chief, no one was injured. The approximately 15 by 20 meter hall is in danger of collapsing. The police are taking over the investigation into the cause of the fire.
