Saxony: First Leipzig Christmas market for dogs opened

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - The first Christmas market for dogs opened in Leipzig on Sunday. On the Cottaweg in the west of the city, two- and four-legged friends should be able to stroll comfortably along the 25 stalls of the dealers, said organizer Monika Eckstein-Scheffler of the German Press Agency. Knitted items, new collars and, for one or the other lucky dog, a food sample are also on offer at the market. "But there is no mulled wine - although - that would be an idea: mulled wine for the dog!", she said with a smile.

Eckstein-Scheffler from Chemnitz brought the idea for the Christmas market to Leipzig. "I rent mobile homes that are equipped for holidays with dogs. I was totally impressed by the Chemnitz dog Christmas market, where I was a dealer myself," she recalled. The dog Christmas market is to take place there a week later, on December 10th, at Klaffenbach Castle.
