Sehmatal (dpa/sn) - Five people were injured in an accident at work in a metal processing company in Sehmatal (Erzgebirge district). On Tuesday afternoon, aluminum dust deflagrated during grinding work on aluminum parts, the police said on Wednesday. This led to a fire in the company's warehouse in the Neudorf district. The 66-year-old operator of the grinding machine was seriously injured. He suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation. According to the information, the 66-year-old had previously tried to extinguish the fire himself.
Four other people were slightly injured: two men aged 29 and 35 and two women aged 30 and 64 suffered smoke inhalation. According to police, the fire went out on its own in the evening. 155 firefighters were deployed. The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the property damage are still unknown.
