Saxony: forest fire areas in the national park: to be continuously monitored

Bad Schandau (dpa / sn) - The forest fire areas in the Saxon Switzerland National Park are now to be monitored completely. This provides for an agreement signed on Friday between Sachsenforst and the city of Bad Schandau. After the successful extinguishing work, the district office canceled the disaster alarm on Friday, which means that responsibility for the local operations management is transferred to the city of Bad Schandau.

"The now necessary monitoring of the areas as part of the fire aftercare and fire watch will be taken over by the national park administration, which is supported in this complex task by other parts of Sachsenforst," it said. The aftercare of the fire ensures that the remaining embers do not flare up again: "It is in our common interest to effectively protect the national park from flaring up again and from further fires."

In accordance with the Sachsenforst agreement, the city of Bad Schandau is making personnel, technical infrastructure and equipment available. This includes, among other things, the provision of a helicopter and "immediate reaction units", which can be deployed at short notice in the event of a fire. The city's firefighters support the national park administration directly in the aftercare of the fire. "The advancing climate change makes it necessary for us to position ourselves together on the subject of forest fire protection," said State Forest President Utz Hempfling.
