Dresden (dpa / sn) - Fraud by false fundraisers has increased significantly in Saxony. 97 such cases were found in 2021, around 50 percent more than in 2020 (61 cases), as the Saxony State Criminal Police Office (LKA) announced on Wednesday. Older people in particular are affected by the fraud, who are persuaded to make permanent donations or sponsorship memberships by stirring up fears.
False employees of aid organizations pretend that in the event of corona disease, the rescue service will not come if the person concerned does not take out a membership. But according to the information, such false appeals for donations also come by post or online. According to the LKA, those addressed should not allow themselves to be persuaded quickly and thoughtlessly to become a sponsoring member. Rather, the information material and the seriousness of the organization or association should be checked in peace.
