Saxony: Free State finances three further hydrogen projects

Dresden (dpa/sn) - As part of the European joint project "IPCEI Hydrogen", the Free State will co-finance three other Saxon projects. Economics Minister Martin Dulig (SPD) was commissioned by the cabinet on Tuesday to conclude the relevant administrative agreements with the Federal Ministry of Economics. According to the announcement, the state parliament still has to agree to this. The state share should total around 57.8 million euros and thus 30 percent of the funding amount, the federal government takes over 70 percent.

According to the information, Stadtwerke Leipzig GmbH is pushing the connection of industry in and around Leipzig to the national hydrogen network, which represents a strategic advantage for energy-intensive companies in international competition. EDL Anlagenbau GmbH Leipzig is working on making so-called PtX products such as sustainably produced kerosene and hydrogen or petroleum (Nafta) available to companies in a timely manner.

The development of the hydrogen economy and the connection of local industry are "of strategic importance," said Dulig, especially in view of the rapid technological and structural transformation and the necessary realignment of German and European energy policy. Hydrogen becomes the linking element of value creation and energy supply, plants for production and distribution, transport systems and hydrogen derivatives form the basis for this.

The IPCEI project aims to create a common European hydrogen market. In the course of the program, projects by Sunfire GmbH Dresden and two initiatives by ONTRAS Gastransport GmbH in Leipzig are each being co-financed by 30 percent.
