Saxony: Full trains between Chemnitz and Leipzig: Additional buses

Chemnitz (dpa/sn) - Because of overcrowded trains, train passengers on the Chemnitz-Leipzig route were left behind on Saturday. Some could not start their journey as planned and stayed behind on the platform, a spokesman for the railway company Transdev said on Sunday. He couldn't count how many people this affected. Express buses should now remedy the situation. Until further notice, they would start every hour in Chemnitz and Leipzig.

The "Freie Presse" had previously reported online about "chaotic conditions". At the start of the Pentecost weekend, not everyone waiting on the platform could have been picked up at the first stop in Burgstädt.

According to Transdev, the huge rush was only partly due to the 9-euro ticket. The spokesman referred to construction work by Deutsche Bahn on the S5 Zwickau-Leipzig line. There is currently rail replacement service on one section, so the journey will be longer. As a result, more train drivers would switch to the Chemnitz-Leipzig route.
