Saxony: Heat in Saxony: Minister warns of risks in the workplace

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - Saxony's Labor Minister Martin Dulig is concerned about the health of working people ahead of the coming hot summer days. The additional stress from heat and UV radiation reduces the body's performance, the SPD politician announced on Sunday in Dresden. "Concentration suffers as a result, which can lead to an increased risk of accidents." According to Dulig, around 218,000 people work in Saxony in sectors where most of their activities take place outdoors.

The state government has published a brochure on how greater protection can be achieved with simple means. "For example, by providing drinks, by shading the workplace or by relocating work to less heat-stressed environments and working hours," explained the Labor Minister.

In the coming week, the German weather service expects a heat wave for Saxony. The temperatures are expected to rise to well over 30 degrees on several days in a row.
