Saxony: human bones discovered in prison: investigations

Torgau (dpa/sn) - Bones of people were found during construction work in the prison in Torgau (Northern Saxony district). After an initial assessment by a forensic doctor, the bones of several people who have been in the ground for several decades are reported by the police on Thursday. Accordingly, the bones were discovered last Friday. The site is said to be on the north side of the prison between a fence and a wall.

According to the police, the age of the bones has not yet been clarified. With high probability they came from the first half of the 20th century. The public prosecutor is investigating the origin of the bones and the alleged circumstances of death. The further exposure of the site for the possible finding of further bone parts was also ordered. It is foreseeable that the rescue work will last until next week, said a police spokesman.
