Saxony: Hydrogen sector: Dulig relies on cooperation with Canada

Dresden (dpa/sn) - The Free State of Saxony is also relying on transatlantic cooperation when establishing a hydrogen economy. According to information on Sunday, Economics Minister Martin Dulig (SPD) initiated contacts during a one-week trip abroad to the provinces of Québec, Alberta and British Columbia. The delegation, which also included representatives from business and science, learned about strategies, but also about the development of alternatively powered trucks or the production of high-performance fuel cells in companies.

Both countries wanted to advance hydrogen technologies together, said Dulig. According to him, they work on the same topics, research and technology play in a league as in fuel cell production. Canada is a country with many natural resources and at the same time a reliable partner. It is agreed that the transformation of the energy sector, mobility and industry only works with hydrogen applications on an industrial scale.

"This international network offers a unique opportunity," said Dulig. After all, hydrogen plays a key role in ensuring a stable energy supply on the continent, for the climate protection goals of the countries and the decarbonization of industry. There is also enormous potential for growth and employment in the resilient hydrogen economy. "In addition, a high, cost-efficient availability of renewable energies and green hydrogen will be decisive for the location security and selection of the industry in the future."
