Saxony: Ice skating on "Leipziger Eistraum" canceled

Leipzig (dpa / sn) - The "Leipziger Eistraum" is canceled again. The popular ice rink on Augustusplatz will be canceled in February and March 2023, the organizer "Arnold Bergmann Eventgastronomie" and the city's market office announced on Friday. The reason for this is the rising electricity costs and the need to save as part of the energy crisis. According to market office manager Walter Ebert, an ice rink is a "resource guzzler" and therefore cannot be operated with a clear conscience and economically in the current crisis.

According to their own statements, the "Leipziger Eistraum" is the largest round ice skating rink in Germany. The event had to be canceled in the past years 2021 and 2022 due to the corona pandemic.
