Dresden (dpa/sn) - The official corona incidence in Saxony has increased slightly compared to the previous week. According to the current overview of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the number of reported new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days increased from 163.1 to 170.8 on Thursday. Nationwide, the value rose to 201.9 (previous week: 186.9).
Experts have been assuming for some time that the value does not fully reflect the infection situation because not all infected people have a PCR test done, but only those with a PCR test count in the statistics.
In a regional comparison, the infection rate in the Free State was most recently highest in the city of Leipzig (264.7) and lowest in the district of Görlitz (103.5). According to the RKI, almost 1.89 million infections have been reported in Saxony since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 - with just over four million inhabitants. 16,373 people have died from or with a Sars-CoV-2 infection.
