Saxony: Inflation in Saxony remains at a high level

Kamenz (dpa/sn) - Inflation in Saxony remained at a high level in February. According to the State Statistical Office on Wednesday, the annual inflation rate was 9.2 percent at a record high. The prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose sharply within a year (21.5 percent).

Consumers even had to spend 38.9 percent more on dairy products and eggs than in February 2022, 24.1 percent on bread and cereal products, and 19.8 percent on meat products. Fresh vegetables cost 21 percent more than in the same month last year.

For water and electricity as well as gas and other fuels, the annual inflation rate averaged 8.3 percent. It therefore remained far from a stable price level. The European Central Bank defines this at around two percent.

Compared to January, consumers in Saxony had to pay more for food or package tours. In contrast, the final sale brought slight discounts on clothing and shoes (minus 0.7 percent). Heating oil prices fell by around 5 percent in February.
