Dresden/Washington (dpa/sn) - Saxony's Social Affairs Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) will speak with author Ingo Schulze about the turnaround and its consequences for East Germans during her visit to the USA. The discussion is scheduled for Thursday at the German Historical Institute in the US capital. Schulze (59) comes from Dresden and has repeatedly dealt with German history and the turnaround in his works. Various appointments in Washington should primarily deal with the topics of social cohesion and the prevention of extremism, as the Ministry of Social Affairs announced on Wednesday.
"Not only against the background of the corona pandemic and the energy crisis is the glue of our society under increasing pressure due to polarization and radicalization. American society is considered to be deeply divided, the polarization runs along many lines of conflict. We have to deal with these tendencies, which there are in Saxony as well as in the USA," explained Köpping. Sometimes it is small things that strengthen social cohesion and bring people closer together again.
