Dresden (dpa / sn) - Saxony's Health Minister Petra Köpping "very clearly" rejects an extension of the facility-related compulsory vaccination in the health and care sector. The SPD politician announced on Thursday that a continuation could not be justified in view of the security of supply and the administrative burden. "We need every nurse to provide the best possible care for people. That's my top priority." However, vaccinations remained important to protect vulnerable groups of people.
Köpping was reacting to statements by Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD). He said on Wednesday that he wanted to make it dependent on the course of the autumn and winter wave how the compulsory care vaccination should continue.
The facility-related vaccination requirement has been in effect since mid-March. The health authorities can issue bans on activities or entry for employees of clinics or care facilities if they do not present proof of vaccination or recovery when requested or do not have a certificate that exempts them from a corona vaccination. The legal basis for compulsory vaccination expires at the end of the year.
