Saxony: Kretschmer again rejects the early exit from coal

Dresden (dpa / sn) - Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer continues to reject an early exit from coal in East Germany. The CDU politician reacted on Wednesday to a report by the Federal Network Agency, according to which the power supply in Germany would be secured even if coal were phased out earlier. The report assumes a tripling of photovoltaics and wind power plants in the next few years as well as a significant expansion of gas power plants. That is illusory and dubious, Kretschmer tweeted.

In the coal phase-out law, "everything is regulated in such a way that there is no need for a discussion about 2030," explained Kretschmer. The lignite will go off the grid when the expansion of renewable energies, expansion and stability of the grids and the "price situation" are given. As a solution to the energy problem, the Saxon head of government advocates the expansion of renewable energies together with an extension of the lifespan of nuclear power, the promotion of domestic gas and the safeguarding of the destroyed Nord Stream 1 Baltic Sea pipeline.
