Hoyerswerda (dpa/sn) - The Kulturfabrik Hoyerswerda (Bautzen district) has been awarded the Regine Hildebrandt Prize. The facility promotes thoughts, ideas and projects in which personal commitment and social responsibility come together, the SPD announced on Saturday in Berlin. With this prize, the party honors projects that stand in particular for the values ​​of the social democrat and Brandenburg Minister of Social Affairs Regine Hildebrandt, who died in 2001.

The Kulturfabrik offers opportunities for encounters, leisure time and cultural education for all ages and deals constructively with the constantly changing challenges in Hoyerswerda. "I'm sure Regine Hildebrandt would have liked it," said deputy party leader Klara Geywitz, according to the announcement. In addition to the Saxon cultural institution, the Rhineland-Palatinate initiative "Grandmas against the Right" and the Mecklenburg association "Miniaturstadt Bützow" were also honored.

The Kulturwerkstatt Hoyerswerda was founded in 1994. According to its own statements, it has 79 active and 59 supporting members. Regina Hildebrand was born in Berlin in 1941 and was Minister of Social Affairs in Brandenburg from 1990, among other things. She was known for her advocacy for the socially disadvantaged and her clear words. The award is given in her honor annually on the anniversary of her death, November 26th.
