Saxony: lack of doctors makes school entrance examinations in Bautzen more difficult

Bautzen (dpa/sn) - The shortage of doctors in the public sector is currently causing difficulties with school entrance examinations in the Bautzen district. As the district office announced on Monday, it cannot currently be guaranteed whether every student who is to be enrolled in school in 2023/2024 will be offered a corresponding examination. This applies in particular to children born in 2016/2017. However, if necessary, school attendance is also possible without this examination.

The parents of prospective elementary school students are usually invited to the health department for a school entrance examination between September and March before school starts. Already in 2020 and 2021, the examinations were a major challenge for the doctors at the Bautzen health department. In addition to the chronic shortage of staff in the public health service, this was also due to the changed examination conditions due to the corona pandemic. Compared to previous years, the personnel situation has now worsened, it said.
