Saxony: Left call for Saxon competence center for municipalities

Dresden (dpa/sn) - According to the left-wing faction in Saxony, public contracts should only go to companies that treat their employees properly, pay them appropriately and do not damage the environment. In order for the municipalities to be able to implement the guidelines, a Saxon competence center for sustainable procurement should be set up, the left-wing faction in the state parliament demanded on Tuesday.

"We know that Saxony's municipalities lack the capacity and know-how to buy more sustainably and to pay attention to ecological criteria or fair production," said the left-wing group's spokeswoman for sustainability, Antonia Mertsching. Many municipalities depend on being given advice that is inexpensive or even cost-neutral.
