Leipzig (dpa/sn) - Admission to the permanent exhibitions of the municipal museums in Leipzig should be free from 2024. The city announced on Thursday that this proposal had been agreed during the mayor's service consultation. The city council still has to approve it. The free entry should attract more people to the museums, especially families and young visitors. Special exhibitions, on the other hand, should continue to cost money.
The permanent exhibitions in the City History Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Grassi Museum for Applied Arts are to be free of charge. The city of Leipzig plans to spend 500,000 euros a year on this. The free entry was actually planned for 2019, but was postponed during the corona pandemic. The effect of free access should be evaluated after three years.
