Leipzig (dpa / sn) - The Leipzig Zoo has started a name call for the new giraffe cub. The zoo announced on Tuesday. Accordingly, all zoo and giraffe friends are called upon to submit name suggestions for the young addition to the Rothschild giraffe herd via the website by March 14th. Four-year-old giraffe Sipiwe gave birth to the calf in early February. In the meantime, the young animal has gotten to know its surroundings and is developing splendidly, the zoo said.
Since the distribution area of the Rothschild giraffe is in East and South Africa, according to the zoo, the almost one-month-old female giraffe should be given an African name that is easy to remember and pronounce. The chosen name will be announced on March 21st.
