Dresden (dpa / sn) - The Saxon Left Party Chairwoman Susanne Schaper considers the rationing of hot water in the energy crisis to be unfair. In her criticism on Tuesday, the 44-year-old referred to a decision by the Dippoliswalde housing association to no longer provide hot water around the clock due to the sharp rise in energy prices. According to Schaper, this ignores the reality of people's lives. The cooperative wants to protect its tenants from high additional payments, but that is not the right way, she explained.
"For people who have small children or work in shifts, this forced austerity measure is a real impertinence. In any case, it represents paternalism, an encroachment on the right to self-determination and thus a gross lack of rent," said Schaper. It is crucial to cushion the extreme increase in energy prices and to keep them stable in the long term - financed by the excess profit tax for mineral oil companies.
Schaper referred to a round table on "energy poverty" planned by her party for Friday. In addition, the Left would raise energy prices at the next session of the state parliament. The left demands, among other things, a nationwide price cap for natural gas, which is used to produce electricity, as well as monthly subsidies for all households depending on the number of people.
