Saxony: low water in Leipzig rivers due to technical inspection

Leipzig (dpa / sn) - The state dam administration wants to check a large weir in Leipzig. On November 7th, the Palmengartenwehr will be completely opened, which will lead to low water levels in Leipzig's waters, the authority announced on Thursday. At times, increased flow velocities and currents are also to be expected. For safety reasons, it was not possible to use the Weißen Elster, the Elster and Pleiße flood beds, the Elstermühlgraben and the Karl-Heine Canal in the Leipzig city area from November 7th to 11th.

The Palm Garden Weir is an important part of the flood protection of the city of Leipzig. In the event of flooding, large flow rates can be diverted into the Elster basin. It also dams up the water of the Weißen Elster, which makes it possible to use it for boat tourism in the city of Leipzig.
