Saxony: Man cycles after car breakdown on the A4 near Chemnitz

Frankenberg (dpa/sn) - After a car breakdown, a man cycled in the dark over the hard shoulder of Autobahn 4 to get help at the next exit. Another driver called the police on Thursday night when the 39-year-old in a warning vest came towards him on the bike, according to the Chemnitz police. The police officers stopped the cyclist near the Chemnitz-Ost exit.

The 39-year-old told officials that he did not have a cell phone with him. His car was towed. He himself received a warning money for riding a bicycle on the freeway. He was also instructed that this was forbidden and dangerous. According to the Road Traffic Act, motorways may only be used by motor vehicles whose maximum speed is more than 60 kilometers per hour. The police could not say why the man had a bicycle with him.
