Saxony: millions in funding for the renovation and expansion of sports facilities

Dresden (dpa / sn) - The Saxon state government and the federal government support eleven cities and municipalities in the Free State in the expansion and renovation of sports facilities. They will receive a total of around nine million euros, as the State Ministry for Regional Development announced on Tuesday. The funds come from the "Sports Facilities Investment Pact" program, which supplements urban development funding and is available in addition to general sports funding in Saxony. A total of 30 cities and municipalities had submitted applications for funding.

The program was reportedly relaunched in 2020. The federal government contributes 50 percent and the Free State of Saxony 40 percent of the eligible expenses. Municipalities have to pay 10 percent. According to the ministry, the federal government surprisingly announced that it would discontinue the program next year. The program was originally intended to continue until 2025.
