Dresden (dpa/sn) - According to the Ministry of Transport, the education ticket for schoolchildren in Saxony, which was introduced a year ago, has been well received. As of May, 138,500 education tickets were subscribed to, which corresponds to around 32 percent of the students at general and vocational schools in Saxony, as the ministry announced on Friday. The ticket has been available in Saxony since last August. It costs 15 euros per month as an annual subscription and is valid around the clock for all buses and trains of the respective transport association.
Since the education ticket can also be used in leisure time, it makes children and young people more independent from their parents and is environmentally friendly, said Transport Minister Martin Dulig. "I associate the ticket with the opportunity to bind young passengers to public transport in the long term and to convince them of the advantages," emphasized the SPD politician.
