Saxony: more and more weapons in Saxony: a small gun license is required

Whether sharp weapons or alarm pistols and rifles, the trend towards weapons continues to grow in Saxony. Not every application for the corresponding permit will be granted.

Dresden (dpa / sn) - The number of permitted rifles and pistols in Saxony, including sharp weapons as well as alarm guns, has increased further in the past year. According to the National Gun Register, there were 151,398 privately owned guns nationwide at the end of 2022, a good 2,400 more than a year earlier. The number of private owners of guns or gun parts that can be assembled into firearms increased by 368 to 31,869. The latter increased by almost 2000 from 10,876 to 12,059.

Gun licenses and gun licenses also continued to trend upwards by 1751 to 88,792, with a person being able to hold multiple licences. The small firearms license, which authorizes the carrying of alarm, irritant and signal weapons in public, is still in demand. There were 23,381 of them in December 2022, 877 more than a year earlier.

According to the findings of the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution, at the end of June 2022 a total of 93 people who belonged to the right-wing scene and twelve people who belonged to "Reich citizens and self-administrators" were in possession of a weapon license, as can be seen from the Interior Ministry's response to a small inquiry from the Parliament emerges. References to this group of people were examined in 14 applications, three were rejected and eight were withdrawn after a hearing. Three are still being tested.

According to the Saxony State Directorate, gun licenses are usually applied for by people at risk or security companies for personnel. Permission to carry a weapon can be granted by the competent authorities in rural districts and urban districts if there is a demonstrably higher risk of attacks on life and limb than for the general public or if there are guard orders for endangered persons or objects. Permissions could be issued with conditions and for a limited period of time for people who are at risk because of federal or state sovereign tasks - or for guests and people from other countries and their security personnel.
