Saxony: More hunters in Saxony

According to the German Hunting Association, the proportion of women among hunters has increased nationwide. In Saxony, too, more women have a hunting license than a few years ago.

Dresden (dpa / sn) - The number of hunters in Saxony has almost doubled in recent years. As Martin Wißmann, Managing Director of the State Hunting Association, reported, at the end of last year there were 1209 holders of a hunting license. In 2013, that number was still 632. The number of hunters in Saxony has only been statistically recorded since the year.

With the increasing number of female hunters, Saxony is in line with the national trend. According to a survey by the German Hunting Association, the proportion of female hunters nationwide has risen from seven to eleven percent since 2016.

However, the majority of hunters in Saxony are male. According to the head of state Wißmann, a total of 13,555 people had a hunting license at the end of last year. This means that women do not even make up a tenth of the hunters.

According to Wißmann, many women come to hunt because they want to "experience nature up close". According to surveys, the breeding and training of hunting dogs is also a bridge to hunting. Recently, there have also been voices from the group of women hunters who like game as food, says Wißmann.

The Saxon State Hunting Association strives to have more women in its ranks. In 2019 joint hunts for hunters were started. In March of this year there was also a first regulars' table for hunters, which met with great interest. It should now be organized twice a year.
