Saxony: More places than applicants: Thousands of trainee positions still available

Chemnitz (dpa/sn) - Thousands of training places are still available. As of the end of July, companies in the Free State had reported 9,375 vacant apprenticeships, as a spokesman for the Saxony Regional Directorate told the Chemnitz Employment Agency. Accordingly, 5565 young people were still looking for an apprenticeship with the help of the youth employment agencies. Overall, these figures show that there are significantly more vacancies than applicants.

With 3800 more vacancies than potential candidates, this is a new high, the spokesman said. "In view of the high and future increasing need for skilled workers, we can no longer afford that in Saxony". Most vacancies were reported in Bautzen, Leipzig and Dresden. Most of the applicants were missing in Plauen and Riesa, where there were almost 2.5 trainee positions for every young person looking for a job.

In 2022/2023 there was an increase in the number of new apprenticeship contracts in Saxon handicrafts, as the Saxon Handicrafts Day recently announced. According to this, 3781 contracts were concluded by the end of July, 7.5 percent more than at the same time last year. But: Hundreds of jobs in the trades were still vacant. The companies were desperately looking for young people.
