Saxony: murder of a 19-year-old: the accused wants to testify later

Leipzig (dpa / sn) - Almost half a year after the murder of a 19-year-old in Schkeuditz near Leipzig, the trial against the alleged perpetrator began. The public prosecutor has charged a 20-year-old acquaintance of the victim with murder and robbery resulting in death, among other things. He is said to have shot the 19-year-old in the head on January 11 this year in a field. According to the public prosecutor's office, the background should have been drug deals.

The 20-year-old German was silent on Friday at the start of the process in the Leipzig Regional Court. However, his defense attorney announced that his client intended to issue a statement on August 3.

According to the public prosecutor, the alleged perpetrator lured the 19-year-old to the field under a pretext. There he put a garbage bag over his head and shot him in the face. He is said to have stolen two sports bags with several kilograms of marijuana flowers and cannabis flowers from the victim. He is said to have hidden the dead man in a ditch.

The 19-year-old was reported missing on January 12. Friends also looked for him with leaflets and notices in Leipzig. A police officer testified in the regional court that he had been considered very reliable. The investigators had a bad gut feeling when they took care of the missing person case.

The 20-year-old was initially questioned as a witness. "What he said did not seem credible," said the investigator. Finally, the 20-year-old led the police himself to the body. He has been in custody since January 18.

The regional court has set numerous hearing dates for the process until November.
