Saxony: New tourism association to bundle activities

Dresden/Chemnitz (dpa/sn) - A new tourism association for the Chemnitz-Zwickau region is intended to better bundle the activities of the industry in the future. On Sunday, the State Tourism Association (LTV) and the Chemnitz Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) spoke out in a joint statement in favor of the city of Chemnitz joining, whose city council still has to decide on this. The city of Chemnitz, the tourism region of Zwickau and the local history and tourism association Rochlitzer Muldental would in future develop the tourism region together under one roof, it said.

Especially with a view to the title of European Capital of Culture 2025 for Chemnitz, such a joint cooperation between the city and the region is valuable, explained LTV President Jörg Markert. "Tourists, doers, companies and intermunicipal cooperation would benefit from this when it comes to joint initiatives, tourist campaigns and offers. We can therefore only welcome a positive vote on the new tourism association by the city council."

Christoph Neuberg, General Manager of the Chemnitz Chamber of Industry and Commerce, assumes that a joint tourism association will significantly increase the region's supra-regional appeal: "With the focus on the marketing priorities of industry, culture and nature, both the city of Chemnitz and the partner regions have immense potential for tourism Facilities and natural landscapes that can be used to attract guests to the region beyond 2025."
