Saxony: number of students further increased: boost from the Ukraine war

Kamenz (dpa/sn) - The number of students in Saxony's schools has been increasing for more than ten years and has recently received a new boost. In the current school year, more than 405,000 children and young people are learning at a total of 1,559 public and private general education schools, as the State Statistical Office announced on Monday. That was around 14,700 or 3.8 percent more than in the previous year. The main reason for the recent increase was the admission of Ukrainian students who had fled their homeland before the Russian war of aggression.

The latest increase affects all types of schools: elementary schools and high schools as well as high schools, it said. Overall, the number of students has increased continuously since the 2009/2010 school year. Students are taught by more than 32,100 teachers. According to the statisticians, that was 2.0 percent more than in the previous year.
