Saxony: Oil and gas transports exempt from Sunday driving ban

Dresden (dpa/sn) - Oil and gas transports in Saxony are exempt from the Sunday driving ban until the end of the year. The Ministry of Transport issued a corresponding regulation on Wednesday, which will apply from September 18th. It serves to secure the supply chains in the energy sector and to ensure security of supply, the ministry said.

The exemption applies to the transport of all types of mineral oil - heating oil, diesel, kerosene and petrol - as well as liquid gas. This also includes empty trips by tankers if they are related to the transport. Driving is also allowed on public holidays.

The federal government had already given priority to energy transport by rail. However, the capacities for the freight trains are already tight, so that it is necessary to expand the capacities on the road, according to the ministry.
