Saxony: Ore Mountains in a white winter dress

Oberwiesenthal/Leipzig (dpa/sn) - The Ore Mountains showed themselves in a white winter dress at the start of the week. On the night of Monday there were a few centimeters of fresh snow in many places - including in parts of Upper Lusatia, the German Weather Service said on Monday.

The Ore Mountains are currently white from an altitude of 500 to 600 meters with snow depths of around 10 to 25 centimeters. From the Fichtelberg even 38 centimeters were reported. All ski lifts were in operation there on Monday.

The other forecasts for this week are said to be subject to great uncertainty: the reason is an air mass limit over central Germany, said meteorologist Florian Engelmann. So it is likely that large parts of Saxony will have mild air and rain on Tuesday and Wednesday night, while it snows in the north.
