Ottendorf-Okrilla (dpa/sn) - The police are still working against climate activists in the Heidebogen forest north of Dresden. From a police point of view, the night of the third day of operations was quiet, the Görlitz police department announced on Friday. At first it remained unclear whether the activists would be asked to pay for the operation. The Sachsenforst state enterprise, as the owner of the affected forest, denied this. The German Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation drew a conclusion on what happened and captioned it with the sentence: "The forest occupation camp is disappearing - the resistance remains".
The protest of the activists was directed against the gravel mining in the region. Environmentalists fear that nearby moors, which are urgently needed to store water and carbon dioxide, will dry up. The gravel company KBO has a permit for mining and is planning additional areas.
