Saxony: Police officer training: Communities should support

Dresden (dpa/sn) - In the fight against anti-Semitism, the Jewish communities in Saxony should from now on support the work of the police and develop educational offers. This provides for an agreement that the State Police Headquarters announced on Thursday. Combating anti-Semitism is a key task, said Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU). "There is no place for extremism, xenophobia and any form of discrimination in our society." With first-hand knowledge of Jewish life in Germany, officials could recognize such crimes more quickly and take more consistent action against them.

"Through a mutual exchange of information and knowledge transfer, we break down prejudices and develop effective strategies for action against anti-Semitism," emphasized state police chief Jörg Kubiessa. As part of a first project, the Saxony State Association of Jewish Communities, in association with civil society partners, is developing suitable educational formats for study training in the Saxon police force. Joint training courses are also planned.

The chairwoman of the Saxon State Association of Jewish Communities, Nora Goldenbogen, described anti-Semitism as a growing danger for Jews in Germany: "In order to counteract it effectively, knowledge of its manifestations and sensitivity is required. We look forward to future cooperation with the Saxon police force , to anchor Jewish life and dealing with anti-Semitism in education."
