Saxony: Police pursue drug-intoxicated truck drivers to Dresden

Leipzig (dpa / sn) - Under the influence of drugs, a truck driver gave himself a chase with the police on the Autobahn from Leipzig to Dresden. Police officers from several departments tried to stop the 32-year-old in his 40-ton truck with a refrigerated trailer on Thursday night, the police said. It was not immediately clear how many police officers were involved. According to a spokeswoman, the number of emergency vehicles involved was in the lower double-digit range. A police officer was injured.

According to the police, a driver saw the truck hit a guardrail at the Leipzig Southeast junction on the A38 and called the police. A patrol wanted to stop the truck, but instead of stopping, it drove into the police car, injuring the policewoman. Then the hunt began, which led to the A14. The truck was driving at excessive speed and crashed into the right and left crash barriers. At first, the police could only accompany the truck and blocked access roads.

The truck left the road on the A14 and lost tires and vehicle parts in the process, but the journey only ended on the A17 near Dresden when the truck drove head-on into the ditch at walking speed. The man was arrested. A drug test revealed amphetamine and cocaine. He was taken to a clinic where blood was drawn from him. His driver's license was confiscated. It should be checked whether he will be brought before a magistrate. The amount of property damage was not immediately known.
