Saxony: Police stop fleeing drivers with shots on tires

Dresden (dpa / sn) - The police in Dresden stopped a drunk driver with a shot at his car tires. The 55-year-old was supposed to be checked by police officers on Monday evening and fled, the police said on Tuesday. The officers were initially able to stop the car. This resulted in a collision between the two cars. The police asked the 55-year-old to get out. Instead, the man accelerated again and backed up.

An officer then shot the tires of the car. However, the driver continued to flee, backing into a concrete crash barrier and a parked car. The man then turned around and drove on. Shortly thereafter, he lost control of the car and stopped on a slope where officers arrested him.

The 55-year-old did not have a driver's license and was drunk at around 1.6 per thousand. Nobody was injured in the accidents. There was property damage totaling around 15,000 euros. The police are investigating the man, among other things, because of endangering road traffic and driving without a license.

According to the police, as part of the investigation, it will also be checked whether the firearm was used lawfully.
