At the end of 2022, 569,173 people lived in the Saxon state capital, almost 1.5 percent more than at the end of 2021, as the city announced on Thursday. This is the highest increase since 2006. The main reason was the strong immigration from abroad. The city in Saxony with the most inhabitants remains Leipzig. Almost 624,790 people lived here at the end of 2022, compared to almost 610,000 a year earlier, according to the statistics of the trade fair city.
