Saxony: Poultry ban at the 126th Lipsia in Leipzig

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - Due to an outbreak of avian influenza, no poultry may be exhibited at the 126th Lipsia breed poultry show in Leipzig. "The exhibition of all poultry had to be officially prohibited at short notice because it is not justifiable for animal health reasons," said the veterinary office on Monday. According to this, after an exhibition on November 28 in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, 26 confirmed cases of avian influenza were subsequently detected. There were also 12 other suspected cases. Thus, the Lipsia Poultry Show, which takes place from December 2nd to 4th, is aimed exclusively at rabbit and pigeon breeders.

"We very much regret this decision, which we did not take lightly, but we see no other option due to the current situation," said Dr. Gabriela Leupold, Head of the Veterinary Office.
