Saxony: prison inmates on the run: track is lost

Waldheim/Chemnitz (dpa/sn) - After the escape of a prisoner from the Waldheim prison (Middle Saxony district), the police are looking for the 31-year-old. The man had been sentenced to prison for two attempts at murder, which he had to serve until 2024, the Chemnitz police department announced on Saturday. However, on Friday he did not return from an exit where he was unaccompanied.

Since Friday evening, there has been an extensive search for the man. According to the information, a tracking dog and a person tracking dog were also used. It was said that he might have taken the train from Waldheim to Chemnitz. At the main station there, the track is lost.

The police suspect that he is in Chemnitz, the district of Mittelsachsen or in Leipzig. The German is about 1.80 meters tall and has short brown hair. When he left, he wore black and gray jeans, a black sweater, a plaid shirt and black and white sneakers.

"Attempts to speak to or hold the escaped prisoner should be expressly avoided," the police warned. It cannot be ruled out that he armed himself with a knife. The police are hoping for information from the public about the fugitive.
