According to the ranking by first name expert Knud Bielefeld, Matteo, Finn and Emil were the top boys in Saxony. The statistics of the hobby name researcher were published on Friday in Ahrensburg in Schleswig-Holstein.

The girls were followed by Emma, ​​Ella, Leni, Frida and Emilia. For the boys it was Theo, Karl, Oskar, Henry and Noah. Relatively often, parents also chose Erwin, Kurt, Otto, Erna, Holly and Lieselotte as names for their children.

According to their own statements, Bielefeld and his team have recorded around 250,000 birth reports from all over Germany for 2022. That is about 34 percent of all babies born in Germany, it said. The evaluation is based on sources from 423 cities, 67 percent of the data comes from registry offices and 33 percent from maternity clinics.

Bielefeld has been publishing the ranking lists of first names since 2006. The Society for the German Language also publishes similar statistics - albeit with around 90 percent of all data from the registry offices.

Nationwide, Emilia, Mia, Sophia, Emma, ​​Hannah, Lina and Mila top the list for girls. The nationwide favorites for the boys are Noah, Matteo, Elias, Finn, Leon, Theo and Paul.

The boy names Elias, Emilio, Finn, Jona, Leano, Leo, Levi, Lio, Nelio and Theo and the girl names Hailey, Leni, Lia, Liana, Lilly, Luna, Malea, Malia, Mira and Nele are clearly on the rise.

Rather unusual names for girls are Adriela, Benin, Gitti, Hayla, Jorike, Kaliana, Lafayette and Lupina - for boys, names like Ador, Ansger, Avenir, Belmiro, Darvi, Elmer, Janeiro and Peregrin fall into this category.
