Dresden (dpa/sn) - The number of newly arriving refugees also increased sharply in Saxony in 2022. According to the state directorate, 17,156 asylum seekers came to the Free State by the end of November. In the two previous years there were 10,222 (2021) and 4463 (2020). In addition, almost 60,000 people seeking protection from Ukraine were registered by Christmas. Most asylum seekers came from Syria (3224), Venezuela (1249), Turkey (960) and Afghanistan (773). A total of 28,677 asylum seekers were living in Bavaria as of the reporting date (November 30). 14,654 people were required to leave the country, but 12,024 of them were tolerated.
