Saxony: Registered corona infections in Saxony are increasing again

Dresden (dpa/sn) - The official corona incidence in Saxony is trending upwards again. The number of reported new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days rose from 213.9 to 237.0 in a weekly comparison according to the current overview of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Thursday. According to an RKI spokeswoman, the start of school, the general increase in respiratory diseases in autumn and increased stays in closed rooms play a role.

The Free State is in the national trend: The incidence for all of Germany increased from 223.1 to 244.4. Within Saxony, the incidence ranges from 187.9 in the district of North Saxony to 282.5 in the district of Leipzig. Experts have been assuming for some time that the value does not fully reflect the infection situation because not all infected people have a PCR test done and only positive ones count in the statistics.

According to the RKI, more than 1.73 million infections have been registered nationwide since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 - with around four million inhabitants. 15,955 people have died from or with a Sars-CoV-2 infection.
