Saxony: Remediation of damaged Müglitz bank in Dohna begins

Pirna/Dohna (dpa/sn) - Nine years after the last flood in the Müglitztal, the damage in Dohna (Saxon Switzerland) is being repaired. A permanent access road has been built since Monday, according to the State Dam Administration (LTV) in Pirna. Outside the breeding season, trees are felled from October 2022 to February 2023. After that there should be work in the water; outside of the closed fish season from May to October 2023 and after the fish stock is secured. According to the LTV, around 1,300 square meters of bank bushes and 6,000 square meters of hardwood alluvial forest will be planted and the foundations of a pedestrian bridge will be dismantled to compensate for the intervention in nature and landscape.

The flood in 2013 completely destroyed the banks of the Müglitz on both sides around 650 meters downstream of the A17 motorway bridge. It is now to be repaired and the river bed secured to enable a safe outflow of up to 95 cubic meters of water per second. The costs are around 870,000 euros and are financed by the federal and state governments.
