Saxony: Renewed searches to attack police officers

Schneeberg/Crottendorf (dpa/sn) - After the massive attack on five police officers last December, there were further searches in Schneeberg and Crottendorf (Erzgebirge district). The apartments and vehicles of three suspects aged 22 and 24 were inspected in the morning, the Chemnitz police department said on Wednesday. They also had to provide DNA samples by order of the judge.

As early as March, investigators had searched 14 apartments in the Erzgebirge and Zwickau districts. In addition to shoes, mobile phones, computers and storage media, they also seized stun guns, batons, brass knuckles, a switchblade, irritant spray devices and pyrotechnics. Evidence was also found and confiscated during the searches on Wednesday, it said. Exactly what this is about has not been said for the time being.

Contrary to the Corona regulations, a group of people celebrated a party in a discotheque in Annaberg-Buchholz in mid-December. According to the investigators, when police officers came to check, they were thrown at them with bottles and chunks of ice. In addition, a 60-year-old officer was surrounded and knocked down. The man lying on the ground is said to have been kicked several times; he was seriously injured. The police speak of a "raid-like attack" and have been investigating since then because of serious breaches of the peace.
