Saxony: Renovated main fire station in Leipzig reopened

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - The listed main fire station of the city of Leipzig has now been completely renovated. The fire brigade moved into the modernized building on Thursday, as the city announced. The need for modernization and repair was enormous, said Axel Schuh, head of the fire department. "All technical systems, whether sanitary, heating, electrical, workshop and elevator were totally worn out. Windows and doors no longer closed tightly." Mayor Burkhard Jung (SPD) emphasized that with the completed renovation, the requirements for a modern fire station have been perfectly implemented in accordance with monument protection.

The building dates back to 1881. The renovation, which lasted more than four years, reportedly cost around 30.6 million euros and was largely financed by the federal government and the Free State of Saxony.
