Saxony: Sachsenforst vehicles burned down in Leipzig

Leipzig (dpa / sn) - In Leipzig, four vehicles of the state company Sachsenforst burned down on Thursday night. The police suspect arson and do not rule out a connection to the evacuation of the Heidebogen protest camp near Dresden. The vehicles were parked on a company site in the Connewitz district. The extremism unit PTAZ of the State Criminal Police Office took over the investigation because of the possible political background, said a spokesman for the police authority. The property damage amounts to at least 100,000 euros.

Sachsenforst is currently clearing a piece of forest in the Heidebogen ("Heibo") near Ottendorf-Okrilla. Conservationists had occupied the area for a year and a half and built tree houses there, among other things. The clearing of the camp has been going on since Wednesday. The company KBO in Ottendorf-Okrilla wants to continue quarrying gravel in the region and has the license to do so.
